Hi, that’s me, my name is Chris. I’ve been off-roading since I was literally in diapers, I cut my teeth rock crawling the Hammers of Johnson Valley and the Rubicon trail. I’ve spent most of my life offroading Toyotas, Jeeps, 4 wheelers you name it, within the last few years though I’ve found my true love of the outdoors lies in Overlanding.
I’m not an influencer, I’m not driving a $100k on wheels(Though, those are some nice rigs), I’m a dude with a 9-5 in an SR Tacoma I built in my driveway with coupons and FaceBook Marketplace finds just trying to get off grid after a long week.
I started doing this YouTube thing really for two reasons: Because I wanted to remember these incredible trips I was taking with my friends, and to combine my passion of outdoor exploration with my creative drive, both of which have been drained the last few years behind a desk. I appreciate each and every person who chooses to spend a part of their day joining me as I explore the South East and Beyond!
I’m primarily located out of South Carolina, most of my adventures are in the South East as a result, I truly believe this area is wildly overlooked in the overland space and I cant wait to show the world.
Lets be real, about bios are great but we all really want to know about the machines that take us on these adventures. This is my rig, Built Not Bought, all done by hand in my driveway with the help of family and friends. None of the brands listed have formal association with Road to Overland LLC.
Mechanics and Armor-
2021 Toyota Tacoma SR - Yeah… Not a TRD, not even an SR, Bare Bones.
Engine and Drivetrain is all stock, save for the TRD Performance air intake it had when I bought it.
Bilstein 5160 Rears and 6110s up front, Bilstein Medium Coils, OME Heavy Leafs. All Beef, all offroad comfort, worth every Penny.
Falken Wildpeak AT3W 255/85/16, “The Pizza Cutters”. almost the default go to for 33 inch simplicity on a Tacoma Build, these tires are an absolute win for this platform.
RCI Steel Engine, Transmission, Transfer Case and Dif Skids, Protect your investment.
Cali Raised Rock Sliders to keep off the rocks on the trail and away from door dings at the mall.
BodyArmor Hiline Winch Bumper, Front recovery is key
Inside the Cab-
Midlands MXT275 Radio on a MTXA26 Antenna, Simple, affordable, Powerful, this radio setup can easily blast through mountains, I’ve held range up to 4 miles in rugged terrain.
Bulletpoint Mounting Systems Phone and Radio Handset Mount, A buy I wasn’t sure about that is one of my favorite parts of the rig.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, Best navigation upgrade to date, rock solid GPS even offline with a responsive easy to read screen.
Camping Essentials-
TrustMade Scout Roof Top Tent, Hooke Road Bed rack, Chinese tent on a Chinese rack, cost effective for decent quality, though if you want to go this route it may be good to know someone with a welder to reinforce the rack.
Novsight 5x8 Awning, Again, Cheap and simple gets the job done and keeps you dry when you need it.
AllTop Overland Shower Tent, Another one of those silly “Overlander Accessories” I thought I’d buy and regret that has actually come in very handy, you can never under value a quick shower after a long day on the trail.
